POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYMENT
 
The Pemberton Township Police Department is governed by the rules promulgated by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission.  We may only hire from a list that is supplied to us by the state.  Individuals wishing to pursue a career with our police department must obtain a test application through the NJCSC. 
 
Pemberton Township is a NEW JERSEY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION - LAW ENFORCEMENT jurisdiction, therefore, all phases of the recruitment, selection and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and municipal ordinance.  Entry level examinations are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey Department of Personnel once every two years.  Dates for the entry level examinations may be found here. 
 
Mandatory qualifications for appointment as a municipal police officer are:
 
=Citizen of the United States
=Good health to satisfy pension requirements
=Literacy (read, write and speak the English language)
=Good moral character (based on contemporary standards)
=Free of criminal conviction involving moral turpitude

The Pemberton Township Police Department is actively seeking to hire qualified Special Law Enforcement Officers II (SLEO II) or retired officers that are qualified to fill our available SLEO II positions.  Applicants must possess qualifications that are recognized by the New Jersey Police Commission (SELO II Course or Basic Course for Police Oficers).  The main function of these positions will be to provide court security and screening but there may be opportunities to work during community functions or critical incidents.  Application must be available to attend mandatory firearms qualifications and in-service training.
